Established in 1827 on Point Gratiot to help guide ships into Dunkirk Harbor. An original light tower near this site became unstable in 1874, hence it was decided to erect a new tower and a keepers house. The present day light and tower were completed in 1876. It included a new Fresnel light imported from France, which was installed in the tower at a cost of $10,000. The tower is 61 feet in height and stands 21 feet above Lake Erie giving the lantern an 82 feet overall height. A covered passage acts as a means for the light's keeper to reach it from the two story keepers quarters. The light itself is still in operation, although automated. The keepers house is now operated by a Veterans organization and includes displays dedicated to honoring all the branches of the Armed Services. The remainder of the rooms display examples from the lives of the Lighthouse's keepers.

Larger sizes include a 18" by 24" for $59.95; 20" by 30" for $74.95; and the 28" by 40" size print at $119.95. Frames and matts are extra. The matted and framed pictures include glass or Lexan®, hanging hardware, and will be shipped in their own special packaging within one week of receiving your order. If you require a larger sized picture, a different frame than our standard oak, or a different color of matt from what we stock, please refer to our special order form.
